World No. 1
Major breakthrough
In September 2024, Jannik Sinner won the US Open, adding to his maiden Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open in January. Victory in New York continued a season of phenomenal achievement, which also included multiple other titles and becoming the first Italian, man or woman, to be ranked World No. 1.
His outstanding performances were a continuation of the strong form he displayed in late 2023 when leading Italy to triumph in the Davis Cup Finals and reaching the final of the Nitto ATP Finals.
Since turning professional at 17, Sinner’s all-round game, featuring powerful strokes and tactical intelligence, has consistently evolved. Soft-spoken but strong-willed, a fierce competitor yet a calm, collected presence on court. He is a formidable opponent on any surface and now established as a dominant force in men’s tennis.
Natural talent
Sinner began playing tennis at the age of seven. His natural talent and passion for the game quickly became evident. He turned professional in 2018, and the following year won the Next Gen ATP Finals, marking himself as a player to watch. His breakthrough came in 2020 when he reached his first Grand Slam® quarter-final at Roland-Garros, becoming the youngest to do so since 2006.
In 2021, he continued his ascent, winning multiple ATP titles. His powerful game, characterized by a formidable backhand, allied with strategic acumen, has made him a formidable opponent on any surface.
Towering achievement
In the final of the 2024 US Open, Sinner took on fellow Rolex Testimonee Taylor Fritz in a meeting of power and precision, ultimately securing his second Grand Slam® title. The pair produced skilful exchanges on the blue hard court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, with the Italian raising his game at key moments throughout the two hours and 17 minutes of battle to ultimately prevail.
